” Russia reportedly dispatched a submarine and other naval vessels to escort the oil tanker Bella 1 as it transits the North Atlantic after fleeing Venezuelan waters.
. The tanker, part of the “dark fleet” involved in transporting sanctioned Venezuelan oil, evaded an attempted U.S.
Coast Guard boarding and interception in international waters near Venezuela in late December 2025.
It then fled across the Atlantic, changed its name and flag to claim Russian protection, and is currently heading toward Russia while empty. The big question is whether there are weapons systems on board that Russia does not want the US to have access to.
