Abuja, March 3, 2026 — The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday paid a high-profile “thank-you” visit to Bwari Area Council, reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to accelerating infrastructure development in communities that supported the administration during the recent FCT Area Council elections.
Speaking during the visit, the Minister conveyed the appreciation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to residents of Bwari for backing the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in the polls. He assured the community that their loyalty would be reciprocated through tangible developmental projects.
“On behalf of Mr. President, let me thank you for fulfilling the promise you made to support his candidates,” Wike said. “Mr. President asked me to tell you that he does not take this support for granted. He will fulfill his part, and that will be done through the delivery of more projects.”
The Minister emphasized that under the President’s Renewed Hope agenda, the administration’s relationship with the people is anchored on mutual responsibility. According to him, ongoing projects in Bwari demonstrate that the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) is already honoring its commitments. He specifically pledged that the Bwari–Kubwa road project would be completed within the year.
Wike further directed the Chairman of the Area Council to submit a fresh list of priority projects for consideration, noting that the President had mandated the FCTA to identify and execute additional interventions that directly address the needs of Bwari residents.
Highlighting the importance of collaboration between the FCTA and local authorities, the Minister assured that his office would work closely with the Chairman-elect to advance youth-focused development initiatives and sustain infrastructure expansion across the council.
In a pointed remark during his address, Wike cautioned residents against what he described as “performative politics,” urging them to remain discerning about leaders who project symbolic gestures without delivering measurable impact while in office. He stressed that genuine leadership should be assessed by concrete achievements rather than public displays.
The Minister also alluded to concerns regarding the current representation of the FCT in the Senate, suggesting a need for leadership that is more attuned to the aspirations of residents. He hinted at future political developments that could reshape representation ahead of upcoming elections.
Earlier, the Chairman of Bwari Area Council, Hon. John Gabaya, expressed appreciation for the Minister’s visit and commended the visible infrastructural improvements underway within the council. He reaffirmed the community’s continued support for President Tinubu’s administration.
The Etsu Bwari, His Royal Highness Ibrahim Yaro, also lauded the Minister’s developmental efforts, pledging the traditional institution’s sustained backing for ongoing urban renewal initiatives.
Chairman-elect Joshua Ishaku described Wike as a leader whose impact extends beyond politics, praising his role in driving the rapid implementation of critical infrastructure projects in line with the President’s Renewed Hope agenda. He assured that the incoming council administration would remain aligned with the Federal Government’s development vision for the FCT.
The visit underscored the administration’s strategy of consolidating political support through visible infrastructure delivery, as the FCTA continues to implement projects across area councils in the nation’s capital.
