During this week’s Education World Forum, I had the honour of co-chairing the UK-Nigeria Education Roundtable alongside Sir Steve Smith, representing the UK Government. I represented the Federal Government of Nigeria in my capacity as the Honorable Minister of Education.
Our discussion focused on strengthening collaboration between our two countries and identifying meaningful opportunities for growth in the education sector.
It was a pleasure to engage with a wide range of stakeholders from both Nigeria and the UK, including Florence Eshalomi MP, representing Vauxhall and Camberwell.
One of the most significant outcomes of our session was the agreement to move from dialogue to action.
To ensure we maintain momentum and deliver on the ideas discussed, I proposed the establishment of a joint working group. This group will be tasked with ensuring continuity and effective implementation of our shared goals.
The proposed composition of the working group includes:
– A representative of the British Council in Nigeria
– Managing Director, NELFUND
– Executive Secretary, NERDC
– Executive Secretary, TETFUND
– A representative of the UK Department for Education
– A representative of the UK Department for Business and Trade
– A representative of my office, the Honorable Minister of Education, Nigeria.
This Roundtable reaffirmed our shared commitment to transforming Nigeria’s education sector—and I look forward to the progress we will make together.
