Former Deputy Gov. Accuses Opposition Leaders for Creating Problems in Nigeria

Former Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Mukhtar Shagari, has accused some current opposition leaders of creating many of the problems currently faced by the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking in an interview aired on Arise News Television, he argued that these opposition figures, during their time in office, mismanaged the country, leading to the troubling challenges confronting the present government.

He said: “I can say this, most of the problems the President is now trying to solve in this country were created by some of the people that are now in opposition to him. Let’s be fair to the President.”

However, he pointed out that President Tinubu’s decision to remove the fuel subsidy was largely demanded by the masses, opposition figures, and even the media. According to him, the fuel subsidy was widely regarded as a scam that past governments failed to eliminate until the emergence of President Tinubu.

“Let’s not be hypocritical, the journalists in this country, members of the opposition party, and many people have consistently said oil subsidy is a scam, an avenue for corruption, and that it must go. The previous leaders did not have the political will and courage to remove the fuel subsidy.”

Moreover, Shagari stated that the removal of the fuel subsidy has greatly helped in sustaining the country. He also noted that the long queues at filling stations are now almost non-existent, thanks to the implementation of this policy by the President
