After Losing Bakassi to Cameroon, Cross River Became a Landlocked State – Attah

The littoral status of Cross River State was granted by the fact that Bakassi had direct contact with the Atlantic Ocean. Unfortunately, it lost Bakassi, and according to the International Court of Justice, Cross River has become a landlocked state with a few archipelago islands, and all its oil wells were lost in Bakassi. Benue is situated on the Benue River, but that doesn’t make it a littoral state. Similarly, Niger is on the Niger River, yet it’s not a littoral state. Kogi is a confluence state and still not a littoral state. Being on the Cross River shouldn’t automatically make Cross River State a littoral state.
